Bhubaneswar: In a massive drive to update the electoral rolls, election authorities have distributed enumeration forms to more than 2.7 crore electors across the state in just 10 days since May 30. This was stated in an official release from the Election Commission. As of Monday, over 75% of voters have received the forms.
Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls
The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is a statewide initiative aimed at ensuring a more transparent, updated, and error-free voter list. The Election Commission has emphasized the importance of this exercise to enhance the accuracy and reliability of the electoral database.
Door-to-Door Campaign by Booth-Level Officers
Booth-level officers (BLOs) are playing a crucial role in this drive. They are reaching out door-to-door to distribute and collect the enumeration forms. This direct engagement with voters helps in verifying details and correcting any discrepancies in the electoral roll.
The distribution process has been expedited, with a significant portion of the electorate already covered. The Election Commission expects to complete the form distribution within the stipulated timeframe, ensuring that every eligible voter is included in the updated list. This exercise is particularly important ahead of upcoming elections, as it helps in preventing errors and omissions.
Voters are encouraged to cooperate with BLOs and provide accurate information. The forms include details such as name, age, address, and other relevant data. Once collected, the forms will be processed to update the electoral rolls.
The Election Commission has also set up helplines and online portals for voters to check their enrollment status and report any issues. This multi-pronged approach aims to achieve a comprehensive and accurate voter list.
