Begusarai Lok Adalat May 9: 50% Rebate on Traffic Fines

Begusarai: Vehicle owners in Begusarai district now have an opportunity to settle their pending traffic violation fines at the National Lok Adalat scheduled for Saturday, May 9. The Lok Adalat offers a rebate of up to 50% on the total e-challan amount, providing significant relief to defaulters.

Facility for Pending Cases

Karunanidhi Prasad Arya, Secretary of the Begusarai District Legal Services Authority and Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, announced on Friday that the facility for settlement of pending traffic e-challan cases has been introduced for the first time in National Lok Adalat proceedings. This provision applies to cases where vehicle owners failed to deposit fines within the stipulated 90-day period.

“A notification by the state government in this regard has already been issued. The local transport office informed Begusarai Principal District and Sessions Judge Rishi Kant about approximately 35,000 pending cases in which people with vehicles registered in the district failed to deposit traffic violation fines. The Saturday Lok Adalat provides a golden opportunity to such defaulters,” said Karunanidhi.

Arrangements for High Turnout

He further stated that a large turnout of vehicle owners is expected due to the provision for on-the-spot settlement at reduced penalty amounts. “So, the district and sessions judge has directed separate arrangements for traffic challan case benches. Elaborate arrangements have been made at the Gandhi Stadium premises with all possible amenities for people,” he added.

Other Cases to Be Heard

Apart from traffic challan matters, the National Lok Adalat will also hear certificate cases related to bank loans, electricity bills, weights and measures, forest and mining matters, as well as family and matrimonial disputes. The Lok Adalat will function simultaneously at the district and sessions court, as well as at sub-divisional courts in Balia, Manjhaul, Teghra, and Bakhri.

This initiative aims to clear the backlog of pending cases and provide a speedy resolution for vehicle owners. Defaulters are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to settle their fines with a substantial rebate.
