Bengaluru's e-Khata Success: Over 99% of 9.1 Lakh Applications Cleared
Bengaluru e-Khata: 99% of 9.1 Lakh Apps Cleared

The Greater Bengaluru Authority's ambitious rollout of the e-khata system has demonstrated remarkable administrative efficiency, with data revealing an exceptional disposal rate of over 99% for applications received across the city. The figures, current as of January 7, paint a picture of a rapidly maturing digital framework for property documentation.

Corporation-Wise Performance: A Closer Look

According to the official breakdown, the five city corporations together received a staggering 9.1 lakh applications under the e-khata initiative. Of this massive influx, authorities have successfully cleared approximately 9 lakh applications, underscoring the system's operational effectiveness.

The West Bengaluru city corporation emerged as the zone with the highest volume, handling 2.7 lakh applications. It was closely followed by the South zone, which processed around 2 lakh applications. Officials clarified that the slightly higher pendency observed in these zones was directly proportional to the sheer number of applications they received, indicating a workload-driven delay rather than a systemic failure.

Identifying the Bottleneck: Mutation Processing

While the overall clearance rate is impressive, the data points to a specific area causing delays. The primary bottleneck has been identified as mutation processing, which involves the official recording of a change in property ownership. This single step accounts for over 90% of the pending cases across Bengaluru.

Among all corporations, the West zone also reported the highest number of mutation cases that remained pending for more than seven days. This highlights a particular challenge in the most high-volume area that authorities are likely focusing on resolving.

A System Declared Efficient and Maturing

Despite the challenges with mutation, the disposal efficiency across the board remained consistently high. All five corporations recorded clearance rates above 99%, a statistic that signals robust administrative performance. Furthermore, the average pendency period for applications across the entire city stood at just 2 days.

A senior official associated with the project stated that this short average processing time is a strong indicator of a largely efficient and, importantly, a maturing digital property documentation system. The e-khata initiative appears to be moving beyond its initial implementation phase and stabilizing into a reliable civic service for Bengaluru's residents.

The successful handling of such a large volume of applications digitally marks a significant step forward in urban governance for India's tech capital. It sets a precedent for other cities looking to digitize and streamline their civic administrative processes.
