MUMBAI: After over 48 hours of severe disruption in water supply across parts of South and Central Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday evening announced that it had successfully completed repairs on the damaged 1,650-mm main water pipeline on Dr E Moses Road in Mahalaxmi. The civic body began restoring supply to the affected areas immediately.
The massive pipeline, located nearly 15 feet underground, had developed a major crack on Wednesday evening. This triggered large-scale water cuts across several wards, including areas of Mumbai Central, Tardeo, Agripada, Kamathipura, and Saat Rasta. Residents faced significant hardship due to the disruption.
Civic officials stated that repair teams worked continuously for 44 hours under highly challenging conditions to restore the line ahead of schedule. Water supply resumed partially on Friday evening and is expected to return fully to normal from Saturday. Around 40 engineers and workers from the hydraulic engineer’s department were involved in the repair operation.
Samajwadi Party corporator Amreen Shehzad Abhrani from Agripada noted that the situation was particularly difficult on Friday, as several mosques required tanker water arrangements for prayers. The BMC coordinated to provide water tankers to mitigate the crisis.
