Goa Plans Coaching Centre for Disabled to Fill Govt Job Vacancies

Goa Authorities Plan Specialized Coaching Centre for Persons with Disabilities

In a significant move to address employment disparities, government positions specifically reserved for persons with disabilities frequently remain vacant across various departments. Recognizing this persistent challenge, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) Goa regional centre has initiated crucial discussions with the state's commissioner for persons with disabilities to establish a dedicated coaching facility.

Addressing Educational and Employment Barriers

The proposed centre aims to provide comprehensive guidance and preparation resources for disabled candidates targeting reserved government job examinations. G Shrinivas, director of the Ignou Goa regional centre, highlighted the systemic obstacles faced by this demographic. "Persons with disabilities often encounter significant hurdles during their educational journey or while searching for employment opportunities due to inadequate support and direction," Shrinivas explained.

The initiative gained momentum following a strategic meeting convened by Guruprasad Pawaskar, the commissioner for persons with disabilities in Goa. "We engaged with multiple associations representing individuals with various disabilities to understand their specific needs. The dialogue focused on two primary areas: facilitating access to higher education and developing structured programs to prepare candidates for reserved government positions," Shrinivas elaborated.

Structured Five to Six Year Implementation Plan

The collaboration involves conducting a thorough scope assessment to identify the exact number of government posts currently reserved for persons with disabilities that remain unfilled. Based on this analysis, authorities will design a long-term, multi-year program aimed at systematically preparing candidates to successfully clear competitive examinations.

The comprehensive strategy is projected to unfold over the next five to six years, ensuring sustainable support for disabled job seekers. This initiative represents a proactive approach to bridge the gap between policy provisions for reservation and actual employment outcomes, potentially serving as a model for other regions facing similar challenges.
