Kanpur: District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh and his wife Rashmi Singh on Thursday conducted a self-enumeration for Census 2027 at their residence in Civil Lines. They appealed to the residents of the district to actively participate in the process.
Benefits of Self-Enumeration
Singh stated that if citizens complete the self-enumeration beforehand, it will greatly facilitate the work of enumerators. The process will become simpler and faster, reducing the time required for door-to-door verification.
Timeline and Process
The self-enumeration phase is being conducted in the state from May 7 to 21, 2026. Subsequently, between May 22 and June 20, 2026, enumerators will conduct door-to-door verification and enumeration work. Singh appealed to the people to perform self-enumeration by visiting the census portal through their mobile phones.
How to Register
For self-enumeration, citizens need to visit the Census Portal, select their state, and register. After entering the name of the head of the family and a 10-digit mobile number, verification will be conducted via OTP. Only one family can be registered using a single mobile number.
Completing the Form
After registration, citizens must select their location and provide general information regarding their household and family. After accurately filling in all the details, the application will be submitted. Citizens will receive an 11-digit self-enumeration ID, which begins with the letter ‘H’.
Importance of the ID
Singh appealed to citizens to safeguard this ID and present it to the enumerator upon their visit. This will allow immediate verification of the data. If any information is missing, it can be updated on the spot.
Confidentiality of Data
He further clarified that all information related to the census is kept strictly confidential. “This information is not shared even under the RTI Act, nor can it be summoned by any other institution or court. Therefore, all citizens should provide accurate and precise information without any hesitation,” he said.
