In a move to streamline essential identity services for residents, a new Aadhaar service centre has been officially opened in Hubballi. This development comes as the existing centre in Dharwad city faces a temporary closure due to administrative processes.
Inauguration and Strategic Location
Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu GRJ inaugurated the new UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) facility on Monday. The centre is strategically located behind the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in the Bhavaninagar area of Keshwapur, Hubballi. The inauguration was attended by key officials including Hubballi Urban Tahsildar Mahesh Gaste, UIDAI Director Manoj Kumar, and District Aadhaar Coordinator Rudresh M.
Addressing the gathering, Prabhu explained the context behind the new centre. She stated that the Aadhaar centre in Dharwad had been temporarily shut down after its tender period expired. The district administration is actively working to re-establish a centre in Dharwad through a fresh tender process. In the interim, to ensure continuous service access, UIDAI has reopened this new facility in Hubballi.
Addressing High Demand in an Educational Hub
Prabhu emphasized the critical need for accessible Aadhaar services in the region. Dharwad city is a major educational hub, hosting several universities, colleges, and schools. This concentration of educational institutions creates a consistently high demand for Aadhaar-related services from a large student population. The district administration has already submitted a proposal to UIDAI to reopen a centre in Dharwad city for public and student convenience.
The newly inaugurated centre in Keshwapur is equipped with four service counters and is managed by an operations manager appointed by UIDAI. It is expected to process approximately 1,200 registrations and updates daily. Prabhu highlighted that the previous Hubballi centre operated successfully from 2019 to 2025. Following the conclusion of the old tender, a new tender process was completed, facilitating the reopening of this upgraded facility.
Comprehensive Services Offered
The centre will provide a full suite of Aadhaar services to the public. Citizens can avail themselves of the following:
- New Aadhaar card registration.
- Correction of details such as name, address, mobile number, and date of birth.
- Biometric updates including photo, fingerprint, and iris scans.
Key Instructions for Transparent Service
During the inauguration, Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu GRJ issued specific instructions to ensure efficient and transparent operations. She directed that information about rules and procedures should be clearly displayed on notice boards at the centre. To enhance public awareness, videos explaining Aadhaar services should be created and disseminated via social media platforms.
Furthermore, she mandated the creation of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) in the local Kannada language and the distribution of pamphlets addressing common issues. A strict directive was given that no extra money beyond the stipulated government charges should be collected from citizens. A notice board detailing all official service charges must be prominently displayed. These measures are aimed at preventing public complaints and ensuring a smooth service experience.
Prabhu also noted the importance of maintaining an adequate number of service kits, warning that reducing them would increase public waiting times and limit service availability in rural catchment areas.
