Kanpur marked the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh with a vibrant celebration of Kisan Samman Diwas at Krishi Bhawan, Gumti, on Tuesday. The event focused on honouring the hard work of the district's farmers and disseminating the latest agricultural knowledge.
Farmers Recognised and Rewarded for Excellence
The ceremony saw a total of 76 farmers being honoured for outstanding achievements across various agricultural sectors. The awards were distributed at both district and block levels, recognising excellence in fields including agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, sugarcane, sericulture, and fisheries.
At the district level, 36 farmers received awards. Eighteen first-prize winners were granted ₹7,000 each, while another 18 second-prize winners received ₹5,000 each. The block level recognition extended to 40 farmers, each awarded ₹2,000. All awardees were presented with shawls and certificates, with the prize money slated for direct transfer to their bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Spotlight on District-Level Champions
The event highlighted specific achievements of top farmers. Ajay Singh from Mauwagaon village in Sarsaul block secured the first prize for an impressive wheat production of 74.60 quintals per hectare. In the general paddy category, Manoj Kumar from Auriya village in Patara block won first prize with a yield of 73.00 quintals per hectare.
Exhibition and Expert Guidance for Farmers
Mayor Pramila Pandey inaugurated the fair by lighting the traditional lamp. The premises hosted stalls from both public and private sectors related to agriculture, drawing farmers from across the district who gathered literature and sought the latest technical information.
Guest of honour Mayor Pramila Pandey addressed the gathering, stating that the Prime Minister and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister are committed to providing maximum facilities to farmers. She cited initiatives like rural electrification, crop insurance, and farmer accident insurance.
RS. Verma, the Deputy Agriculture Director, provided detailed insights into various schemes operated by the agriculture department. Furthermore, scientists from the Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology were present to offer information on cutting-edge agricultural technologies and to provide on-the-spot solutions to farmers' problems.

The celebration served as a fitting tribute to the legacy of Chaudhary Charan Singh, a stalwart advocate for farmers' rights.
