Karnataka Govt Pro-Poor, Says MLA Ponnanna on Housing

Madikeri: The Karnataka state government is pro-poor and has been providing all necessary facilities for the poorest members of society to live with dignity, said Virajpet MLA AS Ponnanna.

Speaking after distributing documents to eligible beneficiaries selected under the Basava and Ambedkar Housing Scheme in 18 gram panchayats of Madikeri taluk on Saturday, Ponnanna explained that the then housing minister Zameer Ahmed facilitated housing under these schemes. With the cooperation of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the current Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, the district received funds for house construction.

Madikeri Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Shekhar stated that the government sanctioned the construction of 1,200 houses in the district. It is proposed to construct 527 houses in the Virajpet constituency. In the first phase, efforts have been made to provide permanent shelter to 427 eligible families in the Virajpet assembly constituency across gram panchayats including Peraje, Chembu, Sampaje, Made, Bettageri, Cherambane, Kundacheri, Bhagamandala, Karike, Aiyangeri, Ballamavati, Emmemadu-Napoklu, Kunjila-Kakkabbe, Nariyandada, Hakathur, Mekeri, and Konanjageri.

He added that the district administration will identify the sites in the coming days and construct houses for the beneficiaries.

District Commissioner SJ Somasekhar, Zilla Panchayat CEO Anand Prakash Meena, and Madikeri Taluk Guarantee Implementation Committee Chairman Mandrira Mohan Das were present at the event.
