4 Arrested in Sultanwind Armed Robbery Case

In a significant breakthrough, Amritsar police have successfully cracked a daring armed robbery case that took place in the Sultanwind area, resulting in the arrest of four individuals after a dramatic exchange of fire that left one suspect injured.

The Sultanwind Robbery Incident

The case traces back to November 20, 2025, when three armed youths stormed a readymade garment shop in Sultanwind. The perpetrators threatened the shop owners at gunpoint before making off with Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and a gold bracelet. Following the brazen daylight robbery, local authorities registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

Police Investigation and Breakthrough

According to police officials, the investigation gained momentum with the arrest of Baljit Singh, alias Buli, who became the first suspect to be apprehended. During his arrest, authorities recovered a Glock pistol and a bullet-proof jacket from his possession.

During subsequent interrogation, Baljit Singh reportedly revealed the identities of his accomplices, identifying them as Kanish, Varun Bhatia alias Billa, and Karan Singh alias Sooraj. This crucial information set the stage for further police action.

Exchange of Fire and Additional Arrests

The case took a dramatic turn on Tuesday evening when a police patrol team near Verka Bypass attempted to stop a suspicious individual. The suspect, later identified as Kanish, allegedly opened fire at the police officers while trying to escape into nearby fields.

Inspector Baljinder Singh, the Station House Officer of B-Division police station, stated that he fired in self-defense after the suspect ignored warning shots. The exchange resulted in Kanish sustaining a leg injury, following which he was immediately hospitalized for treatment.

Based on information obtained from Kanish during interrogation, police teams conducted coordinated raids and successfully arrested Karan Singh and Varun Bhatia from the Vallah area. During these arrests, authorities recovered two additional pistols from the suspects.

Criminal Background and Recoveries

Investigations have revealed that the arrested individuals have connections to multiple other criminal cases across the region. Their criminal records include involvement in an attempt to murder case in Mohkampura, a snatching case in Sultanwind, and participation in the murder of a councillor in Jandiala Guru earlier this year.

In total, the police have recovered four pistols and one bullet-proof jacket from all the accused persons. The successful resolution of this case marks a significant achievement for Amritsar police in their ongoing efforts to combat organized crime in the region.

The injured accused, Kanish, remains under medical supervision while the other three suspects are in police custody for further investigation and legal proceedings.
