In a significant breakthrough, the Kanpur Police have arrested five individuals linked to a high-value theft at a mobile shop in Govind Nagar. The stolen items, including mobile phones, laptops, and watches, were valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh.
Interstate Chase Leads to Arrests
The crime occurred on December 7 when Neeraj Valecha's Mobile Shop in Govind Nagar was burgled. Utilizing CCTV footage captured under Operation Trinetra, police identified four youths carrying sacks and fleeing in an auto-rickshaw. This visual evidence launched a complex investigation that spanned multiple states.
Officers tracked the suspects' trail from Kanpur to Lucknow, and further into Bihar and Nepal. A dedicated team, led by Govind Nagar police station in-charge Rikesh Singh, conducted relentless searches for over 17 days across these regions before finally apprehending the accused back in Govind Nagar.
Recovery and Rewards
From the arrested accused, the police successfully recovered 113 expensive mobile phones. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mubeen (Motihari), Pramade, Mukesh, and Krishna (all from Nepal), and Shoeb (Bajriya). One accused, Aslam alias Haddi from Motihari, remains at large and is wanted by the police.
Applauding the team's effort, Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for the successful operation. The recovered phones are currently in police custody, and officials are interrogating the suspects to locate the remaining stolen property.
Ongoing Investigation and Future Steps
Commissioner Raghubir Lal stated that the interrogation aims to uncover the entire network involved in the theft and sale of the stolen goods. "If necessary, we will take them into custody remand to make them confess to whom they sold the phones," the official said. The five arrested accused are scheduled to be presented in court on Wednesday.
This case highlights the effectiveness of integrated surveillance systems like Operation Trinetra and coordinated interstate police operations in tackling organized crime. The Kanpur Police's persistent pursuit, which crossed state and international borders into Nepal, underscores their commitment to solving major theft cases and recovering property for victims.
