Five Arrested in Dramatic Mumbai Kidnapping and Ransom Case
In a dramatic rescue operation, Mumbai police have arrested five individuals for allegedly kidnapping a Mira Road resident, brutally assaulting him, and demanding a hefty ransom of ₹10 lakh for his release. The victim, who works in the share market, was successfully rescued by alert police officers after his quick-thinking wife reported the crime.
The Kidnapping and Assault
The terrifying ordeal began around 9:30 PM on Thursday, November 29, 2025, when the victim was abducted from Janata Bar in Pali Naka, Bandra West. According to police reports, four to five assailants forced the man into an Ertiga car and transported him to a house in Vile Parle West, where he was confined against his will.
During the kidnapping, the perpetrators not only took the victim hostage but also stole ₹1.85 lakh in cash, an iPhone, and a watch valued at ₹35,000 from his possession. The accused then subjected him to physical violence, beating him with a wooden stick and threatening him with a sword while demanding the substantial ransom payment.
The Rescue Operation
The victim's wife demonstrated remarkable presence of mind when she received threatening calls from the kidnappers. Instead of panicking, she immediately alerted the Juhu police, setting in motion a carefully coordinated rescue operation. The kidnakers instructed her to bring the ransom money to multiple locations across the city, including:
- Alpha market in Irla
- Near McDonald's in Andheri
- Shopper's Stop vicinity
While the wife followed instructions, police teams closely monitored her movements. Eventually, one of the accused escorted her to the location where her husband was being held captive. Once police confirmed the victim's presence at the Tata compound house in Vile Parle West, they stormed the premises and successfully rescued the traumatized man.
The Accused and Their Motives
Police have identified the five arrested individuals as:
- Viju Manikam Swami alias Tammi Anna (45) - the main accused
- Jaya - Tammi Anna's sister
- Suhas Raghunath Bagve (49) - Jaya's husband
- Priyanshu (22) - son of Jaya and Suhas
- Prashant Bhausaheb Jadhav (37) - their driver
All the accused are residents of Andheri and Vile Parle areas. Investigation revealed that the complainant had previously worked with the main accused, Tammi Anna, approximately three years ago. The motive behind the kidnapping appears to be financial disputes, as the victim had allegedly taken money from the main accused and several others for share market investments but failed to return the funds.
The accused were produced in court on Friday, November 30, 2025, and have been remanded in police custody until Monday. The Khar police have registered a case under multiple sections including kidnapping, as the abduction occurred within their jurisdiction, though the actual rescue was conducted by Juhu police based on the wife's complaint.
This case highlights the effectiveness of prompt police response and public cooperation in resolving serious criminal matters in Mumbai. The coordinated effort between different police units and the courageous actions of the victim's wife prevented what could have been a tragic outcome.
