Elderly Woman Fatally Assaulted While Mediating Family Dispute in Rudrapur

A tragic incident unfolded in the Dineshpur area of Udham Singh Nagar district on Tuesday night, where a 70-year-old woman lost her life after allegedly being assaulted while trying to stop a violent family altercation. The victim, identified as Sandhya Devi, was reportedly beaten to death after intervening in a heated confrontation between her son and daughter-in-law.

Escalation of Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly

According to police reports, the evening began with an argument between Prasenjit Shah and his wife Surabhi over a personal matter. The couple, who have been married for four years, engaged in a verbal dispute that quickly intensified as the night progressed.

As tensions mounted, Surabhi contacted her family members, who promptly arrived at the matrimonial home. What started as a verbal exchange between the two sides soon escalated into a physical confrontation, with both families becoming involved in the scuffle.

Mother's Intervention Ends in Tragedy

Amid the chaotic scene, Sandhya Devi stepped forward in an attempt to calm the situation and separate the fighting parties. Tragically, instead of de-escalating the conflict, she became a target of violence herself.

The elderly woman was allegedly assaulted during the melee and sustained grievous injuries. She collapsed at the scene and was immediately rushed to the district hospital via ambulance. Medical professionals at the hospital examined her upon arrival and declared her brought dead.

Multiple Injuries and Police Response

The violent clash resulted in additional casualties beyond the fatal assault on Sandhya Devi. Her son-in-law, Sonu Kumar, also suffered serious injuries during the altercation and required medical attention.

Police personnel reached the location promptly and managed to bring the volatile situation under control. The authorities arranged for Sandhya Devi's body to be sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence.

Investigation Underway with Multiple Suspects in Custody

Circle Officer DR Verma visited the scene on Wednesday along with a forensic team to conduct a thorough examination of the crime scene. Verma confirmed that police have taken six suspects into custody, including Surabhi, the daughter-in-law involved in the initial dispute.

"We have taken six suspects, including Surabhi, into custody and are questioning them," stated Circle Officer Verma, emphasizing that the investigation is actively progressing.

Senior Police Officials Assure Thorough Probe

Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Ganpati also visited the incident site and met with the bereaved family members to offer condolences and assurances. The SSP promised a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the tragic events.

"The investigation is underway and all angles are being examined," SSP Ganpati declared, adding that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found guilty in connection with the elderly woman's death.

The police have assured the family and community that they are pursuing all investigative leads and examining every aspect of the case to ensure justice is served for Sandhya Devi, whose attempt to bring peace to a family conflict ended in her untimely death.
