Police in Lucknow have initiated legal action against nine people following a horrific incident of animal cruelty in the Thakurganj area. The accused are alleged to have brutally beaten a stray dog to death, an act that has sparked outrage and led to the filing of a formal case.

The tragic event occurred near the Badi Kala locality on December 19. According to a complaint filed by the animal welfare organization Aasra: The Helping Hands Trust, a group of individuals collectively assaulted a defenseless dog. Eyewitness accounts state that the attackers used sticks, bricks, and rods during the prolonged and violent assault, which ultimately resulted in the animal's death.
Animal Welfare Trust Demands Justice
Charu Khare, the Founder and President of Aasra Trust, condemned the act in the strongest terms. She described the incident as "extremely inhuman and shameful," emphasizing that such brutality cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. The trust approached the Thakurganj police after gathering information and testimonies from witnesses.
"This was not an accident, but a brutal act carried out collectively," Khare stated. She expressed grave concern that the accused had been involved in similar acts earlier. "If strict action is not taken, such incidents will only increase," she warned, urging authorities to set a precedent.

Station House Officer (SHO) Omveer Singh Chauhan of Thakurganj police station confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been officially registered. The case has been lodged under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. A thorough investigation into the matter is now underway to identify and prosecute all individuals involved.
