The assailants then forcibly opened the car window, snatched the keys, and launched a violent attack on Kamaljit Singh with the alleged intent to kill him. The accused who had seized the car subsequently drove away with the vehicle, leaving the victim traumatized but alive.

Based on Kamaljit Singh's detailed statement, a formal case was registered against Avtar Singh of Dhindsa village in Samrala and two other unknown individuals. As the investigation progressed, the roles of additional suspects came to light, including Harjot Singh from Aloud village in Khanna and Gurpreet Singh, also from Dhindsa village in Samrala.
