Ahmedabad Security Scare: Airport and Rural Court Receive Bomb Threats

The city of Ahmedabad was gripped by a security scare on Wednesday morning following the receipt of bomb threats targeting two key locations: the Ahmedabad airport and the Ahmedabad rural court. This prompted an immediate and coordinated response from police forces and multiple security agencies, who swiftly mobilized to assess and neutralize any potential danger.

Rural Court Targeted Again with Suicide Bomb Warning

The first alert emerged at the Ahmedabad rural court, situated near Income Tax Crossroads, where the court registrar received an email warning of an impending suicide bomb attack. This incident marks the second such threat directed at the rural court within a span of just 25 days, highlighting a troubling pattern of repeated security breaches.

In response, a comprehensive security operation was launched, involving police personnel, fire brigade teams, the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS), and specialized dog squads. These units conducted an exhaustive search of the entire court complex, meticulously scanning for any suspicious objects or materials.

Despite the heightened security measures, court proceedings continued uninterrupted during the checks. A police official commented on the situation, noting, "Courts across the region have been receiving frequent bomb threats in recent months. Most turn out to be hoaxes, but every alert is treated with utmost seriousness to ensure public safety." After thorough inspections, authorities confirmed that no suspicious items were found, deeming the threat a hoax.

Airport Alert: Email Threat Claims Bomb in Luggage Section

Simultaneously, an email threat was received at the official email ID of Ahmedabad airport, claiming that a bomb had been planted in the luggage section and was set to explode. The email, which arrived on Tuesday, was sent from an address bearing the name ‘Ambar Durham’ and featured a subject line referencing a bomb blast in the luggage area, along with provocative content designed to incite fear.

Upon receiving the alert, airport security agencies immediately escalated to a high-alert status. A bomb threat assessment committee was promptly convened to evaluate the credibility of the threat and coordinate response efforts. A detailed and systematic search of the airport premises was carried out, focusing particularly on the luggage sections and other critical areas.

Following extensive inspections, the threat was declared non-specific and false, with no suspicious materials detected. Airport authorities later filed a formal complaint against an unidentified individual at the airport police station for sending the threatening email, underscoring the legal repercussions of such hoaxes.

Rising Trend of Hoax Threats in Ahmedabad

These twin incidents occur against a backdrop of similar security alerts in Ahmedabad, raising significant concerns over a spate of hoax threats targeting public institutions. Just five days prior, several schools in the city received bomb threats via email, which were also found to be false after thorough inspections.

The recurrence of such threats underscores the challenges faced by security agencies in distinguishing credible dangers from malicious pranks, while maintaining public confidence and operational continuity. Authorities emphasize that all threats, regardless of their likelihood, are investigated with rigorous protocols to prevent any potential harm.

As Ahmedabad grapples with these security challenges, residents and officials alike are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly. The ongoing efforts by police and security teams aim to safeguard the city’s critical infrastructure and ensure the safety of its citizens amidst these unsettling incidents.
