Ahmedabad Row House Fire Claims Lives of Father and Son in Early Morning Tragedy
A peaceful night's rest transformed into a horrific disaster in the early hours of Tuesday when a fierce fire erupted in a row house in Ahmedabad's Vejalpur area. The blaze resulted in the tragic deaths of a 39-year-old man and his nine-year-old son, while three other family members narrowly escaped with their lives.
Timeline of the Devastating Incident
The fire broke out at approximately 3:20 AM at House Number 4 in the Krishnanagari Row Houses complex, located near Bakeri City on Makarba Road. The Gohil family, consisting of five members spanning two generations, had retired to bed following their evening meal. Within hours, dense, toxic smoke began permeating the upper floor where the family was sleeping, creating a life-threatening situation.
According to an accidental death case registered at the Vejalpur police station, the tragic events unfolded between 3:20 AM and 5:02 AM. The victims were identified as Dhruv Gohil, who worked at a private factory in the Changodar GIDC industrial area, and his young son Shashwat, a bright Class 4 student.
Escape and Rescue Efforts Amid Intensifying Flames
As the inferno rapidly intensified on the ground floor, three women from the household, including Dhruv's wife Mital Gohil, managed to escape through a neighboring house. They reached the safety of the society compound just as flames engulfed the lower level of their home.
Alert residents immediately contacted emergency services, with the fire brigade receiving the distress call at 3:28 AM. Fire officials who responded to the scene conducted a preliminary investigation and determined that the ground-floor hall appeared to be the point of origin for the blaze. Initial suspicions point toward a possible electrical short circuit or a spark emanating from an air-conditioning unit as potential causes.
Heroic Rescue Attempt and Medical Response
Firefighters bravely entered the smoke-filled residence despite near-zero visibility conditions, locating and extracting Dhruv and Shashwat Gohil who were both unconscious. The father and son, along with Mital Gohil, were rushed to Sola Civil Hospital at 5:02 AM for emergency medical treatment.
Tragically, both Dhruv and Shashwat were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Mital Gohil survived the ordeal and is currently undergoing medical treatment for injuries sustained during the fire.
Legal Proceedings Following the Tragedy
Local authorities have registered an accidental death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) as they continue their investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident. The community remains in shock as they mourn the loss of two lives in what began as an ordinary night that turned catastrophic.
