Ahmedabad NSG Drill Turns Violent as Constable is Run Over by Speeding Vehicle
In a shocking incident during a high-security drill, an unarmed head constable in Ahmedabad sustained grievous injuries after a car driver allegedly attempted to run him over. The event occurred near the Thaltej metro station, where a National Security Guard (NSG) exercise was being conducted in the early hours of Friday.
Details of the Early Morning Attack
The incident unfolded around 3 AM on Friday when head constable Sardarsinh Shivubha Solanki, 45, from the Bodakdev police station, was managing traffic as part of security protocols for the NSG drill. According to the First Information Report (FIR), Solanki and fellow officers were stationed to prevent vehicles from approaching the metro station area during the operation.
When alerted by other officers about an approaching vehicle near Thaltej village, Solanki observed a white car speeding towards the police barricade. Despite repeated signals to halt, the driver allegedly accelerated directly at the policemen. Solanki was struck and thrown onto the car's bonnet and windscreen before falling onto the road as the vehicle sped away.
Severe Injuries and Immediate Police Response
The impact caused multiple serious injuries to Constable Solanki, including fractures below his left knee and in his left shoulder. He also sustained injuries to his elbow, waist, and right leg. He was rushed to a private hospital's emergency ward, from where he filed the official complaint.
Other police officers present at the scene immediately pursued and intercepted the fleeing car. The driver was identified as Yash Soni, a 20-year-old resident of Naroda who works at a spa in Shilaj.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
Police Sub-Inspector Y Y Chauhan of the Bodakdev police station confirmed that the accused has been booked for attempted murder along with other relevant offences. A formal case has been registered, and further investigation is currently underway to determine the full circumstances and motives behind the attack.
