Ahmedabad Teenager Arrested Following High-Speed Crash Involving Rented SUV

A 19-year-old Class 12 student from Ahmedabad has been taken into custody by police after he allegedly caused a multi-vehicle collision while driving a rented Mahindra Thar at high speed. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, left several individuals injured, including a motorcyclist who sustained serious fractures.

Details of the Incident and Arrest

According to investigators, the accused, identified as Hitesh Purbia, a resident of Borisana, rented the Mahindra Thar SUV along with two friends for the purpose of attending a school function. Police reports indicate that the group intended to "show off" the vehicle at the event. After stopping to refuel at a nearby petrol station, Purbia took control of the wheel and proceeded to drive at excessive speeds toward the venue.

The accident unfolded on the service road near Ambedkar Bridge, directly opposite the Sanskriti Movieplex in Kalol. Authorities stated that the Thar was being driven on the wrong side of the road when it first struck an Activa scooter. Subsequently, the SUV collided head-on with a motorcycle ridden by Shoaib Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Mannat Park Society who operates a truck garage in Adalaj.

Severe Impact and Multiple Injuries Reported

Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene, noting that the impact of the collision was so forceful that Sheikh was thrown into the air. His motorcycle became trapped underneath the SUV. The Thar then continued its path, crashing into a parked loading rickshaw and causing it to overturn.

Sheikh suffered serious fractures to his left leg and right hand as a result of the crash. Two brothers who were inside the rickshaw at the time sustained injuries to their hands and received initial medical treatment at Kalol Civil Hospital. Additionally, a two-year-old child was among those injured in the incident, though specific details regarding the child's condition were not immediately disclosed.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

Kalol taluka police have arrested Hitesh Purbia and formally registered a case against him for rash and negligent driving. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is currently ongoing, with authorities examining all aspects of the event to determine further liabilities or violations.

This incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving, particularly among young individuals operating vehicles without adequate caution. The community has been urged to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
