Ahmedabad Woman Seeks Helpline Intervention Over Husband's CCTV Surveillance
In a distressing incident from Shahibaug, Ahmedabad, a woman has sought assistance from the Abhayam helpline after her husband installed CCTV cameras in every room of their residence, driven by suspicions of her infidelity. The situation escalated when she was locked out of her home following a disagreement, leaving her stranded with her children.
Details of the Marital Dispute
Upon arrival at the scene, counsellors found the woman outside her home with her children. She revealed that their marriage, which is the second for both partners, has lasted four years. The husband's previous marriage reportedly ended due to his excessively possessive behavior, a trait that relatives had attempted to counsel him on without success.
To monitor his wife's activities closely, he installed surveillance cameras throughout the house, including in their private bedroom. When no evidence of wrongdoing was found, he began accusing her of negligence and instigating arguments.
Counselling and Legal Action
During counselling sessions, the man expressed a desire to end the marriage, alleging that his wife tampered with the lights and cameras. Frustrated by the ongoing drama, the woman decided to pursue legal recourse. Counsellors guided her in lodging a formal complaint against her husband to address the harassment and invasion of privacy.
Rising Trend in Similar Cases
Counsellors noted an increase in cases where women report being under constant surveillance by their husbands due to unfounded suspicions of extramarital affairs. In most instances, men are advised that suspicion alone is insufficient without concrete proof, and they are urged to refrain from making baseless allegations. This case highlights broader issues of trust and privacy within marriages, prompting calls for better awareness and support systems.
