ACB Arrests Ajmer Power Engineer in Bribery Sting Operation

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested Babu Lal, a superintendent engineer at Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (AVVNL), for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a contractor. The arrest was made during a trap set at the AVVNL head office in Ajmer, where the engineer was caught red-handed while taking the money.

Details of the Bribery Allegations

According to ACB circle inspector Meena Beniwal, the contractor had filed a complaint stating that Babu Lal demanded Rs 2 lakh to clear a pending work order scheduled for December 2025. The engineer allegedly delayed bill payments to pressure the contractor into making the illicit payment. After verifying the complaint, the ACB team orchestrated a trap operation.

During the operation, the contractor handed over Rs 50,000 to Babu Lal at his office, leading to his immediate arrest. Officials confirmed that the engineer's assets are currently under verification as part of the ongoing investigation into potential corruption and misuse of power.

Broader Implications and ACB Actions

This incident highlights ongoing efforts by the Anti-Corruption Bureau to combat corruption in public utilities. The arrest underscores the challenges faced by contractors dealing with bureaucratic delays and alleged extortion. The ACB's swift action in this case demonstrates their commitment to enforcing anti-corruption laws and ensuring accountability among public officials.

Further investigations are expected to reveal more details about the case, including any possible links to other corrupt practices within the organization. The ACB has urged other potential victims to come forward with similar complaints to help curb such activities in the future.
