Medical Graduate Detained in Connection with Deadly Delhi Explosion
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken into custody a recently graduated doctor from West Bengal's Uttar Dinajpur district as part of their ongoing investigation into the devastating blast near Delhi's historic Red Fort. The explosion, which occurred on Monday, resulted in 10 fatalities and left several others injured, sending shockwaves across the national capital.
Doctor Picked Up During Family Visit
Jahnisar Alam, who completed his MBBS from Al Falah University in 2024, was apprehended by NIA officers on Friday while he was visiting relatives in Dalkhola. According to eyewitness accounts, Alam was taken into custody from Surjapur market where he had gone for routine shopping. The detention occurred during what was supposed to be a celebratory family gathering.
Alam had traveled to Dalkhola with his mother and sister on November 12 to attend a relative's engagement ceremony scheduled for November 16, with the wedding set to take place on December 6. The family, originally from Dalkhola, had moved to Ludhiana in Punjab years ago, where Alam completed his schooling before pursuing medical studies.
University Connection Under Scanner
Investigative sources revealed that the probe into the Red Fort blast has indicated potential links to doctors from Al Falah University in Faridabad. This development has prompted the NIA to expand their investigation to include other medical graduates from the institution. Alam's uncle, Abul Kasem, confirmed to reporters that all MBBS batch mates from Al Falah University are being questioned as part of the comprehensive investigation.
Speaking about the sequence of events, Kasem detailed that investigators first visited Alam's family home in Ludhiana and spoke with his father, Touhid, before tracking the young doctor to his relative's residence in Dalkhola. After being detained, Alam managed to contact his mother to inform her that he was being taken for questioning and later updated the family that he had been transported to Siliguri for further interrogation.
Forensic Evidence Points to Terror Module
The investigation has taken a significant turn with evidence gathered from the blast site being sent for detailed forensic analysis. Authorities are examining potential connections to what is being described as the Faridabad terror module, where earlier seizures included a staggering 358 kilograms of ammonium nitrate along with other bomb-making materials.
The discovery of such substantial quantities of explosive materials has raised serious concerns about the scale of the planned operations. Investigators are working to establish whether the Red Fort blast represents an isolated incident or part of a larger coordinated attack that was prevented by the timely seizure of explosives in Faridabad.
Family members describe Alam as a polite and well-behaved individual, expressing shock and confusion about his potential involvement. "We don't know what he has done. He is a polite man," his uncle stated, reflecting the family's bewilderment at the recent developments.
The NIA continues to pursue multiple leads in this high-profile case that has captured national attention, with the medical community connection adding a new dimension to the counter-terrorism investigation.
