Major Police Operation in Arambol Targets Illegal Spas and Prostitution Racket

In a significant crackdown following local protests, Mapusa police have conducted coordinated raids targeting illegal spas and wellness centers operating in the Arambol area. The operation resulted in the rescue of seven women and the arrest of eight individuals, including five foreign nationals from Uganda and three Indian citizens from different states.

Five Ugandan Women Arrested for Overstaying and Solicitation

During the police action at Khalchawada, authorities apprehended five Ugandan nationals identified as Sandra Namwaje, Marget Kyakuwade, Zahara Nasanga, Phionah Mubezi, and Shanita. According to police statements, these women were allegedly caught soliciting customers and failed to produce valid travel documents when questioned.

The five foreign women have been transferred to a detention center for foreigners in Mapusa, where they will remain while immigration authorities process their cases for overstaying their visas in India.

Three Indian Men Charged with Operating Prostitution Network

In a related development, police arrested three Indian nationals for their alleged involvement in operating a prostitution racket. Those arrested include:

  • Sanju Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh
  • Shibani Das from West Bengal
  • Paresh Bhati from Gujarat

Police have charged these individuals under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. Investigators stated that the three men were actively involved in procuring and inducing women into prostitution through the network of illegal spas.

Seven Women Rescued and Provided Protective Shelter

The seven women rescued during the operation have been transferred to a protective home where they will receive necessary support and counseling services. Police have not disclosed the identities of the rescued women to protect their privacy during the ongoing investigation.

Separate Arrest of Another Ugandan National for Overstaying

In a separate but related action on Monday, patrolling officers arrested another Ugandan national identified as Bangi Agnes Nambalirwa for overstaying her visa. This arrest brings the total number of foreign nationals detained in connection with the crackdown to six.

The police operation comes just one day after local residents staged protests against the proliferation of illegal spas and wellness centers in Arambol, expressing concerns about criminal activities operating under the guise of legitimate businesses.

Authorities have indicated that investigations are ongoing and further actions may be taken against other establishments suspected of similar illegal operations in the region.
