In a shocking case from Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, police have formally registered a case against seven individuals, including a police officer, for the alleged brutal torture of a young man. The First Information Report (FIR) was filed following a direct order from the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court.
Court Orders FIR After Allegations of Extreme Brutality
The incident, which has sent ripples through the community, dates back to September 1. The victim, identified as Pappu alias Shravan Kumar (25), was reportedly detained at the Khaptiha Kalan police outpost in connection with theft investigations. The alleged torture, however, crossed all bounds of legality and human dignity.
According to the victim's complaint filed in court, he was not only severely beaten but also subjected to inhuman degradation. Pappu alleged that he was forced to drink urine while in police custody. The physical assault was so severe that it resulted in two fractured fingers. Furthermore, he claimed he was threatened with a police encounter, a serious allegation often associated with extra-judicial action.
Sequence of Events: From Theft Probe to Medical Examination
The chain of events began with two theft complaints. Pappu was taken to the outpost for questioning regarding thefts reported on August 27 and August 31 from the homes of two individuals named in the FIR—Jwala and Pankaj.
After his release, the victim took immediate steps to seek justice. He first lodged a formal complaint of torture at the Pailani police station, under whose jurisdiction the outpost falls. Crucially, he also underwent a medical examination. The medical report corroborated his claims of physical injury, confirming the fracture in his two fingers.
Dissatisfied with the initial police response, Pappu moved the CJM court in Banda, presenting his complaint and medical evidence. The court found merit in his application and directed the local police to register an FIR, setting the legal process in motion.
Investigation Launched Against Seven Accused
Acting on the judicial order, the Banda police registered the FIR under serious sections of the Indian Penal Code. The accused named in the document are seven individuals, including Harisharan Singh, who was the in-charge of the Khaptihakalan outpost at the time.
The other six accused are Ramroop, Bhaiya, Pankaj, Jwala, Vidyadhar, and Sunil. Inspector Rajesh Kumar of Pailani police station confirmed the development, stating that an FIR has been registered on the court's order and an investigation has begun.
This case highlights severe allegations of police misconduct and custodial torture in the Banda district. The judicial intervention to ensure an FIR was registered underscores the challenges victims often face in seeking accountability. The ongoing investigation will now determine the veracity of the grave charges and the culpability of those named.
