Bathinda Woman Arrested for Allegedly Poisoning Her Two Children to Death

A shocking case of filicide has emerged from Bathinda district, where a woman has been accused of systematically poisoning her two young children to death over a period of several weeks. The accused, identified as Jassi Kaur, a resident of Phulewala village, was arrested on Saturday after she reportedly confessed to the gruesome murders.

Details of the Tragic Incident

According to Rampura Phool DSP Manoj Kumar, the investigation began when the family's eight-year-old daughter, Sukhpreet Kaur, died approximately two weeks ago. At the time, her death was attributed to what appeared to be a severe stomach infection, and no foul play was suspected by the family or authorities.

The situation took a sinister turn when the couple's six-year-old son, Fatehveer Singh, passed away on Friday night under eerily similar circumstances. This prompted the children's father, Budh Singh, to alert the police, expressing his growing suspicions about the coincidental nature of the two deaths.

Confession and Arrests

During police interrogation, Jassi Kaur, who is in her mid-30s and has been married for nearly a decade, allegedly admitted to administering rat poison to her children through their food over an extended period. More disturbingly, she claimed to have conspired with her paramour, Lakhi Singh, and her sister, Mota Kaur, to carry out the killings.

Police have arrested both Jassi Kaur and Mota Kaur in connection with the case. However, Lakhi Singh, who hails from Mehal Kalan in Barnala district, remains at large and is currently being sought by authorities.

Father's Heartbreaking Account

In his official complaint, Budh Singh, who works as a laborer, revealed that he had long suspected his wife of being involved in an extramarital affair but had chosen to remain silent for the sake of maintaining family harmony and protecting his children.

"When my daughter died, I had no idea about the conspiracy behind it," Budh Singh stated on Saturday. "But when my son died in a similar manner within 14 days, I became suspicious and felt that my wife, her sister, and Lakhi Singh could be behind the deaths."

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

A formal murder case has been registered against all three accused at the Rampura Phool police station. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to gather additional evidence and locate the absconding suspect.

The postmortem examinations of both children are scheduled to be conducted on Sunday, which is expected to provide crucial forensic evidence regarding the cause and manner of their deaths. Police are also examining the possibility of a broader conspiracy and motive behind the alleged killings.

This tragic case has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising serious questions about family dynamics, mental health, and the protection of vulnerable children in domestic settings.
