A 66-year-old mason in Bengaluru has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 58-year-old wife at their home in the city's western part around midnight on Tuesday, driven by suspicions of her infidelity. The accused, identified as Kumar, later attempted to take his own life, according to police reports.
Family Details and Living Arrangements
The victim, Devi, worked as a contract sweeper at the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna railway station in Majestic. The couple resided together in Sanjeevininagar, Moodalapalya. Their two daughters are married and live separately, while their son stays with his wife in the same locality, maintaining close proximity to the family home.
Details of the Fatal Attack
Police stated that Kumar allegedly attacked Devi while she was asleep, striking her on the neck with a machete. The assault proved fatal, and she died instantly at the scene. The violent incident unfolded in the quiet of their residence, shocking the local community.
Suicide Attempt and Police Intervention
Following the killing, Kumar reportedly called his son to inform him of the murder and express his intention to die by suicide. The son rushed to the house, where he found his father attempting to hang himself. He immediately intervened, preventing the suicide and alerting the authorities.
Govindarajanagar police personnel responded promptly, detaining Kumar and shifting him for necessary medical attention. After ensuring his physical condition was stable, they placed him under formal arrest, initiating legal proceedings.

A senior police officer revealed that Kumar had been harboring suspicions about his wife's fidelity for approximately two years. The doubts reportedly originated during a family trip to Sabarimala, where he observed her speaking to the driver hired for the journey and began suspecting an affair.
