Midnight Assault and Robbery Near Bengaluru Metro Station

A shocking incident of violent robbery unfolded near the Baiyappanahalli Metro station in Bengaluru in the early hours of Sunday, leaving a 26-year-old man injured and traumatized. The victim, identified as Dayanand BD, a resident of HRBR Layout in Kalyannagar, was targeted by a six-member gang traveling on two scooters around 12:10 am.

Details of the Terrifying Ordeal

Dayanand had just returned to the city after attending a wedding in Hassan district and was waiting at the back gate of the metro station for his friend, Jeevan, to pick him up. According to his account, the gang, all appearing to be in their 20s, suddenly approached him. Before he could react, they surrounded him and launched a vicious assault.

One attacker held a knife to his neck while three others pinned him down and repeatedly punched him in the face. The assailants then proceeded to rob him of his possessions, including a silver chain valued at approximately Rs 5,000, a wristwatch worth around Rs 1,500, and his wallet. The wallet contained crucial identification documents such as his ID cards, driving license, PAN card, and four debit cards. Notably, he had only Rs 100 in cash at the time.

Resistance and Escape

When the robbers demanded more money, Dayanand offered to transfer funds via a digital payment application. They attempted to snatch his mobile phone, but he resisted despite being heavily outnumbered. The assault continued until he managed to raise an alarm, prompting the gang to flee the scene on their scooters.

His friend Jeevan, who had already arrived at the location, initially mistook the commotion for a fight among the miscreants. Upon realizing Dayanand was the victim, he rushed to his aid and immediately called the police helpline 112. Hoysala police personnel arrived promptly and advised Dayanand to seek medical treatment as he was bleeding profusely from his injuries.

Police Action and Investigation

After receiving treatment, Dayanand filed a formal complaint at the Byappanahalli Police Station. Authorities have registered a case under Sections 310 (dacoity) and 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the metro station and surrounding areas to gather evidence and identify the perpetrators. This investigation aims to track down the gang and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The incident has raised concerns about safety in the area, particularly during late hours, and highlights the need for increased vigilance and security measures near public transport hubs.
