Bengaluru Murder Case Culminates in Tragic Family Suicide Pact in Bihar
In a shocking and deeply tragic development, a 50-year-old man from Bengaluru, who was facing charges for the murder of his teenage nephew, allegedly entered into a suicide pact with his elderly mother and two sisters. The bodies of all four family members were discovered inside a Jain dharmashala located in Rajgir, within Bihar's Nalanda district, according to official police statements.
Identification of the Deceased and Background of the Case
The deceased have been formally identified as GR Naga Prasad, his 78-year-old mother GR Sumangala, and his sisters Shilpa GR, aged 48, and Shruta GR, aged 43. This case has its roots in a prior horrific incident in Bengaluru. Shilpa was the mother of the victim, 14-year-old Amogh Kirti, whose murder Prasad had confessed to committing last year.
The initial crime unfolded in August 2025, when Prasad surrendered himself before the Soladevanahalli police station in northwest Bengaluru. He admitted to killing his nephew, Amogh, following repeated and intense arguments centered around the boy's alleged severe addiction to online gaming. Police reports indicate that Amogh had dropped out midway through his class 9 studies. He was under the care of his uncle, Prasad, after Shilpa expressed significant concern about her son's deteriorating behavior and specifically requested her brother to counsel and guide him.
Escalation of Conflict Leading to Murder
Prasad, a bachelor, reportedly made concerted efforts to persuade the teenager to resume his education and abandon his gaming habits. However, their relationship became increasingly strained due to frequent quarrels, primarily over Amogh's persistent demands for money to fund his online gaming activities. During one particularly heated confrontation, the situation escalated violently, resulting in Prasad allegedly murdering the boy.
In the immediate aftermath of the killing, a distraught Prasad attempted to take his own life by jumping into a lake near his residence. He survived this suicide attempt solely due to the low water levels in the lake at that time. Following this, he spent nearly three full days at the KSRTC bus terminal in Bengaluru's Majestic area, in a state of distress, before ultimately surrendering to the authorities.
Legal Proceedings and Subsequent Events
The police initially encountered difficulties in formally registering the case because Shilpa, the victim's mother, refused to lodge a complaint against her brother. Consequently, the Soladevanahalli police were compelled to register the case suo motu, or on their own motion. Prasad was subsequently remanded to judicial custody at the Bengaluru Central Prison.
In a surprising turn of events, Shilpa later approached the court seeking bail for her brother. The court granted this bail last month. According to police sources, the four family members—Prasad, his mother, and his two sisters—then left Bengaluru together on a pilgrimage in mid-January.
Discovery in Bihar and Ongoing Investigation
Their tragic journey ended with the discovery of their bodies in the Jain dharmashala in Bihar. The local police in Nalanda district are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding their deaths. Preliminary indications from the investigation strongly point towards a coordinated suicide, likely achieved through an overdose of sleeping pills. The case has sent shockwaves through the communities in both Bengaluru and Bihar, highlighting a devastating chain of events stemming from familial conflict and personal despair.
