Bengaluru Newlyweds Injured in Gas Cylinder Explosion at Rental Home
A newlywed couple in Bengaluru sustained severe burn injuries after a gas leak from a cylinder triggered a sudden explosion at their rented house in Kondappa Layout, near Yelahanka, in the early hours of Sunday. The incident occurred between 6:00 AM and 6:30 AM, according to preliminary police investigations.
Details of the Injured Couple
The injured individuals have been identified as Krishnaveni, 25, and Raju, 26, both natives of Bagepalli in Chikkaballapur district. The couple got married just three months ago, and Raju is employed at a private firm. They are currently undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital, with Krishnaveni reported to have sustained more serious burn injuries compared to Raju.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Explosion
Police stated that the couple was completely unaware of the gas leak that had accumulated in their home. The explosion was triggered when Krishnaveni either switched on a light or attempted to light the gas stove, causing the accumulated gas to ignite suddenly. The force of the explosion was powerful enough to damage part of the house wall and create a significant fire.
Emergency services including police and fire brigade personnel rushed to the scene promptly and managed to bring the fire under control. Authorities confirmed that the gas cylinder itself remained intact despite the explosion.
Police Investigation and Separate Fire Incident
A case of accidental fire has been officially registered at the Yelahanka police station, and investigations are currently ongoing to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the incident.
In a separate and unrelated incident in Bengaluru, an accidental fire broke out at a furniture store located in Canara Bank Colony, Moodalapalya, in west Bengaluru around midnight on Saturday. The fire started on the ground floor of a multi-storeyed building and spread to two trees in front of the building. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this incident. Fire and emergency personnel successfully doused the blaze, and the shop has been identified as belonging to a person named Murali.
