Quick Police Response and Technology Save the Day in Bengaluru Cab Incident
In a heartwarming turn of events in Bengaluru, a family was reunited with their four-year-old son after accidentally leaving him in the back seat of a cab, thanks to the swift action of patrolling police and the use of advanced technology. The incident highlights the critical role of law enforcement and digital tools in ensuring public safety.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred on the night of February 14, when a five-member family, including a mother in her 30s and her young son, booked an eight-seater cab online from Iskcon in Rajajinagar to their home in Ponnappa Layout, Hennur. The boy, who was asleep at the time, was placed in the last seat of the vehicle, which was empty. Upon reaching their destination around 8:10 PM, the family exited the cab in a hurry, and the driver, Kiran Kumar, drove away after collecting his fare.
It was only moments later that the mother inquired about her son's whereabouts from her cousin, who assumed the child was with her. Realizing their grave mistake, the family immediately tried to contact the driver through the cab service's call center but were unsuccessful. In a state of panic, they dialed the police control room at 112 for assistance.
Police Intervention and Technological Aid
By 8:30 PM, a patrolling Hoysala vehicle arrived at the scene. Assistant Sub-Inspector Manjappa Koppal and Head Constable Satish Kumar took charge of the situation. Their first step was to collect CCTV footage from a neighboring house, which allowed them to identify the registration number of the cab involved.
Using the mobile crime and criminal tracking network system app, the officers quickly accessed a mobile number linked to the cab, which belonged to the vehicle's owner. The owner cooperated promptly, providing the contact details of the driver, Kiran Kumar. ASI Koppal explained, "We called Kiran. He was around 9 kilometers away from Ponnappa Layout and had a three-member family in his cab at that time."
Reunion and Resolution
Initially, Kiran Kumar denied having any child in his vehicle, and his passengers confirmed they did not see a boy. However, the police instructed him to stop the cab and conduct a thorough check of the back seat. To everyone's relief, Kumar soon reported, "Yes, sir, a child is asleep here." The officers advised him not to wake the sleeping child and to return immediately to the location shared with him.
Kumar expressed fear of being arrested for kidnapping, but the police reassured him, acknowledging it was an accidental case with no malicious intent on his part. Within 15 minutes, Kumar arrived at the spot, and the mother was overjoyed to be reunited with her son, who had remained asleep throughout the ordeal.
This incident underscores the importance of vigilance and the effective use of technology in emergency situations, serving as a reminder for families to double-check their belongings and for authorities to leverage digital tools for public welfare.
