Elderly Woman Brutally Murdered in Bengaluru Home, Husband Unaware Beside Her

In a shocking and tragic incident, a 70-year-old woman was found murdered inside her residence in the Nelamangala area on the outskirts of Bengaluru. According to police reports, the attack allegedly occurred while her mentally challenged husband lay beside her, completely unaware of the horrific event unfolding next to him.

Details of the Victim and the Crime Scene

The victim, identified as Shobha, resided with her husband Ranganath in Kote Beedi within the Hirapur locality. The couple, who had no children, lived alone in their home. Police state that the killing took place at approximately 1:03 AM, when an intruder allegedly entered the house and slit Shobha's throat in a brutal assault.

Shobha, who was the daughter of a jewellery shop owner, was wearing substantial gold ornaments at the time of the attack. Investigators believe that after the murder, the accused searched the house for cash, indicating a possible robbery motive. The couple had returned home earlier that day from their routine morning walk, making the incident all the more distressing.

Arrest and Alleged Motive Behind the Murder

Police have arrested a man named Shivakumar, described as a wholesale shop owner, in connection with the case. Investigators allege that the crime was driven by severe financial distress. According to officers, Shivakumar was attempting to clear a debt of around Rs 8 lakh, which may have prompted the desperate act.

The arrest was facilitated by CCTV footage from the neighbourhood, which captured a man leaving the area on a motorcycle shortly after the incident. Officers traced the vehicle's registration number using footage from nearby cameras, leading them directly to Shivakumar. This technological aid proved crucial in swiftly apprehending the suspect.

Discovery of the Body and Husband's Condition

The murder was discovered when a doctor arrived at the home to administer physiotherapy to Ranganath. Upon entering, the doctor found Shobha lying dead beside her husband. Police report that Ranganath, who has been mentally challenged for about 15 years, appeared completely unaware of what had taken place, adding a layer of heartbreak to the already grim situation.

This case highlights the vulnerabilities faced by elderly individuals living alone, especially in urban outskirts. The Bengaluru police are continuing their investigation to uncover all details and ensure justice is served. The community has been left in shock, with authorities urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
