Bihar Police Sub-Inspector Apprehended in Bribery Sting Operation

A sub-inspector of the 2019 batch has been arrested by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) in a dramatic anti-corruption operation in Muzaffarpur district. The officer was caught red-handed on Wednesday while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 at a tea stall located just outside the police station premises.

Details of the Corruption Case

The arrested officer has been identified as Bhaskar Kumar Mishra, who was posted at the Sadar police station in Muzaffarpur. According to official reports, Mishra was actively investigating a kidnapping case when he allegedly demanded a bribe from the complainant.

The complainant stated: "My brother's name had emerged as a suspect in the kidnapping investigation. Sub-Inspector Mishra demanded Rs 50,000 in exchange for removing my brother's name from the case diary, providing relief to the accused, and deliberately weakening the official case records."

After extensive negotiations between the parties, the bribe amount was reportedly settled at Rs 30,000, to be paid in two separate instalments. The first payment of Rs 15,000 was scheduled as the initial transaction that led to the officer's capture.

Vigilance Bureau's Trap Operation

Meanwhile, the aggrieved complainant had submitted a formal written complaint at the VIB office in Patna. Following thorough verification of the allegations, a specialized VIB team in plain clothes was dispatched to the Sadar police station area to conduct surveillance.

Mishra allegedly summoned the complainant to a tea shop situated adjacent to the police station premises. As soon as the sub-inspector accepted the marked bribe money, the vigilance team, which had meticulously laid the trap, immediately moved in and apprehended him.

Official Statement and Legal Proceedings

VIB Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar provided official confirmation of the incident, stating: "Sub-Inspector Bhaskar Kumar Mishra was caught red-handed accepting the bribe money, which has been successfully recovered from his possession. Following his arrest, he was transported to Patna for detailed interrogation."

The DSP further emphasized: "All necessary legal proceedings will be completed under the stringent provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. This case demonstrates our commitment to rooting out corruption from public institutions."

The arrest highlights ongoing concerns about corruption within law enforcement agencies and the vigilance bureau's continued efforts to combat such malpractices through coordinated sting operations and systematic investigations.
