Tragic Hit-and-Run in Etawah Claims Life of Eight-Year-Old Boy
In a horrific incident that has shocked the Basrehar area of Etawah district, an eight-year-old boy was killed after a speeding car struck his bicycle and dragged him for nearly 500 metres before he fell onto the road on Sunday night. The driver fled the scene immediately, leaving the child critically injured, according to police reports.
Severe Impact and Driver's Callous Actions
Police stated that the impact of the collision was so severe that the child, identified as Ritik, became stuck on the car's bonnet. Shockingly, instead of stopping to help, the driver accelerated, continuing to drive with the boy trapped on the vehicle. After traveling approximately half a kilometre, the car swerved, causing Ritik to fall onto the road, which triggered panic among nearby residents who witnessed the terrifying scene.
CCTV Footage Emerges as Police Intensify Investigation
CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, clearly showing the child on the bonnet of the car as it speeds away. ASP (Rural) Shrish Chandra confirmed that police are actively scanning CCTV footage from nearby routes to identify and trace the driver. "The accused will be arrested soon," he asserted, highlighting the urgency of the investigation. The footage is expected to be a crucial piece of evidence in locating the absconding driver.
Details of the Victim and the Accident Scene
The deceased, Ritik, was a resident of Amritpur, and his father works as a salesman at a petrol pump. Police reported that Ritik was returning home on a bicycle from the fields when the speeding car hit him near a temple. After being alerted by locals, police reached the spot promptly and rushed the injured child to the district hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Family members, including his uncle Ajay Kumar, reached the hospital after being informed. Kumar recounted that the accident occurred when Ritik was turning towards home from the fields. "We rushed him to the hospital, but he could not be saved," he said, expressing the family's grief. The body has been sent for postmortem, and police efforts are underway to locate the driver, who remains at large.

The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, with residents demanding swift justice for the young victim. Police are leveraging all available resources, including:
