Notorious Burglar Apprehended in Ballia After Late-Night Firefight

In a dramatic late-night operation, the Bansdih police in Ballia district successfully arrested a notorious burglar following an intense exchange of fire in the Mahua area. The incident occurred on the Bansdih–Sarangpur road late on Monday night, marking a significant breakthrough in local crime prevention efforts.

Police Action Leads to Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Goods

Providing detailed insights into the operation, Ballia Additional Superintendent of Police (North) Dinesh Kumar Shukla stated on Tuesday that the police team was conducting routine night patrolling when they spotted a suspicious individual on a motorcycle. "During night patrolling on the Bansdih–Sarangpur road, the Bansdih police station team noticed a suspicious motorcycle-borne person in the Mahua area and signalled him to stop," Shukla explained. However, upon seeing the police, the suspect attempted to flee by accelerating his vehicle, but his motorcycle slipped, causing him to fall onto the road.

In a desperate move, the accused opened fire at the police officers, prompting retaliatory action. During the exchange, the burglar sustained a bullet injury to his leg, leading to his immediate capture. The police swiftly recovered a stolen motorcycle, a pistol, and several cartridges from the scene before rushing the injured suspect to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Identification and Confession of the Accused

The arrested individual was identified as Dilip Sahni, a 31-year-old resident of Bansdih. During subsequent interrogation, Sahni confessed to his criminal activities, revealing that he had stolen a motorcycle and Rs 10,000 in cash from a man named Pawan Kumar on February 11. He admitted to being involved in several other theft cases previously, highlighting his history of burglary and theft in the region.

This arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Ballia to combat crime and ensure public safety. The recovery of stolen property and weapons is expected to aid in further investigations and potentially link Sahni to additional unsolved cases.
