In a significant crackdown on illicit arms activities, the Shikaripura Town police in Shivamogga district have arrested a 67-year-old man for allegedly possessing firearms and manufacturing country-made weapons. The suspect, identified as Lakshmanappa, a carpenter by profession and a resident of Bhadrapura, was taken into custody following a meticulously planned raid on his property.
Police Action Based on Verified Tip-Off
On February 4, law enforcement authorities received and verified a credible tip-off regarding illegal activities occurring at the suspect's old house. After confirming the information, a formal case was registered under the stringent provisions of the Arms (Amendment) Act 2019. Under the direct guidance of Shivamogga Superintendent of Police Nikhil, a special investigation team was swiftly formed to execute the search operation.
Armed with a legally obtained search warrant from the court, the police team conducted the raid at precisely 6 pm on February 4. During the thorough search of the premises, officers made a startling discovery: seven single-barrel country-made guns and a variety of manufacturing components were found concealed within the old building.
Recovery of Weapons and Judicial Proceedings
The recovered items included not only the completed firearms but also various tools and parts used in the manufacturing process, indicating an ongoing illegal operation. Lakshmanappa was immediately taken into custody and subsequently produced before a judicial magistrate.
