Chennai Police Nab Five Suspects in Two Separate Robbery Incidents
In a significant crackdown on street crime, the Chennai police have successfully arrested five individuals linked to two distinct robbery cases reported in the Vyasarpadi and Koyambedu areas of the city. The swift police action resulted in the recovery of all stolen valuables, including a gold chain and a mobile phone, as well as the two-wheelers used by the perpetrators to commit the offenses.
Koyambedu Gold Chain Snatching Case
The first incident unfolded at the Koyambedu bus terminus, where two habitual offenders targeted a young woman. Aarthi, a 20-year-old resident of Sirkazhi, was waiting at the terminus on Friday morning to travel to Andhra Pradesh when two men on a motorcycle snatched her gold chain and fled the scene. Following her complaint, the CMBT police registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation.
A special police team was formed to track down the culprits. Their efforts led to the arrest of Mohamed Jafar, 27, from Villivakkam, and Vivek, 32, from Padi. The police recovered one sovereign of gold chain from the accused. During the investigation, it was revealed that Mohamed Jafar is a history-sheeter at the JJ Nagar police station, with an alarming record of 14 previous criminal cases. Vivek, on the other hand, had two prior cases registered against him.
Vyasarpadi Mobile Phone Robbery Case
In a separate incident in Vyasarpadi, three men were arrested for assaulting a migrant worker and stealing his mobile phone near a local temple. The victim, Rameshwar Palvi, a 25-year-old native of Madhya Pradesh, filed a complaint with the Sembium crime branch. Utilizing the complaint and analyzing CCTV footage from the vicinity, the police were able to trace and apprehend the suspects.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shiva, also known as 'Lottai' Shiva, 23, from Madhavaram; Lakshmanan, 22, from Vyasarpadi; and Nagaraj, alias 'YouTube' Nagaraj, 27, from Red Hills. The stolen mobile phone and the two-wheeler used in the crime were successfully recovered by the authorities. All three accused have been remanded to judicial custody following their arrest.
