Chhattisgarh Minor Gang-Raped and Brutally Attacked After Street Play in Jashpur

A horrifying incident has shaken the community in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district, where a 16-year-old minor girl was allegedly gang-raped and then subjected to a vicious attack in an attempt to kill her. The crime occurred on Monday evening as the victim was returning home from a local nukkad natak (street play) programme in the Bagbahar region.

Details of the Assault and Rescue

According to police reports, the girl was walking back from the drama event when a group of youths allegedly intercepted her. They forcibly took her towards a secluded forest patch, where the sexual assault is said to have taken place. In a further act of brutality, the attackers are suspected to have strangled her and inflicted a sharp-force injury to her neck before abandoning her, believing she was dead.

The girl was later found unconscious in the forested area by some passers-by, who immediately alerted local residents. She was rushed to the nearest health facility for urgent medical attention. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was initially shifted from a sub-health centre to a civil hospital and later referred to a medical college hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Police Response and Legal Action

Law enforcement authorities have swiftly responded to the incident. Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Special teams have been formed to trace and apprehend the accused individuals involved in this heinous crime.

The community is reeling from the shock, with calls for justice and enhanced safety measures for women and minors in the region. This case highlights ongoing concerns about violence against women in rural areas and underscores the need for stringent enforcement of laws like the POCSO Act to protect vulnerable populations.
