A tragic incident in the capital has claimed the life of a Class 11 student, highlighting the dangers of filming risky content for social media. A 16-year-old boy died on Sunday after falling from the roof of an abandoned mall in Delhi.
Details of the Tragic Incident
According to the Delhi Police, the victim, identified as Kavin Kumar (16), had climbed onto the fragile roof of the North Gate Orbit Plaza Mall with friends to create video reels. The police reported that Kumar, in an attempt to impress his companions, tried to cross the domed roof a second time. During this attempt, he fell through an ill-maintained fibreglass panel, which gave way under his weight.
The mall, as per police records, has been in an abandoned state since 2012, and its structure was not properly maintained. After the fall, Kumar was rushed to Pentamed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Police Investigation and Family's Allegations
The Delhi Police have registered a case against unknown persons in connection with the death and have launched a full investigation into the incident. However, the boy's family has raised suspicions, alleging possible foul play.
Munit Kumar, the boy's paternal uncle, shared the family's account. He stated that they received a call from a family friend informing them that Kumar had met with an accident. The friend's son, who is also Kumar's friend, had seen the crowd and police at the mall and identified the boy lying on the floor. "All his friends had run away. The police were called by the staff of a restaurant inside the mall," the uncle alleged, questioning the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
