Two Constables Dismissed After Viral Video Shows Woman Forcibly Taken to Police Station
In a significant disciplinary action, two constables posted at Bhusawar police station in Bharatpur district were dismissed from service on Tuesday. The dismissal was ordered by Bharatpur Superintendent of Police Digant Anand after a video went viral on social media, showing the constables bringing a young woman to the police station late at night without any apparent reason and without informing any senior officer.
Details of the Incident and Investigation
The two constables, identified as Sonu and Paramveer, brought the woman to the Bhusawar police station around midnight on February 22. According to reports, people from the woman's village quickly arrived at the station and staged a protest. They alleged that the constables arrived at the woman's house on a motorcycle and forcibly took her away with them. Some locals reportedly chased the bike, which proceeded directly into the police station premises.
Further allegations from the locals claim that police personnel at the station confiscated a young man's mobile phone and assaulted him when he attempted to record a video of the incident. After the woman's family members learned about the situation, they rushed to the police station and took her home. The family, however, did not file an official complaint due to fear of repercussions.
Official Response and Disciplinary Action
Superintendent of Police Digant Anand stated that upon the video surfacing, he immediately sought a factual report from station officer Ramdayal Meena. The subsequent departmental investigation conducted by Meena confirmed that the woman was indeed forcibly brought from her home to the police station by the constables. Based on the findings, which concluded that both Sonu and Paramveer were guilty of unethical conduct, SP Anand ordered their dismissal from service.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about police misconduct and the importance of accountability within law enforcement agencies. The swift action taken by the authorities in response to the viral video underscores the role of public scrutiny and social media in ensuring transparency and justice.
