Post-Mortem Confirms Traumatic Asphyxia in Delhi Biker's Fatal Pit Fall
The tragic death of a 25-year-old biker, who fell into an uncovered Delhi Jal Board (DJB) pit in Janakpuri last week, has been officially attributed to traumatic asphyxia with suffocation, according to the post-mortem report. The victim, identified as Kamal Dhyani, a private bank employee, succumbed to injuries sustained in the early hours of Friday when he plunged into a nearly 15-foot-deep excavation site.
Investigation Reveals Accidental Death and Critical Details
The post-mortem findings indicate that the biker was discovered lying in a prone position inside the pit, with the manner of death currently classified as accidental. Authorities noted that the exact time of death will be determined through further investigation. Notably, the report suggested that chest compression, potentially caused by a heavy vehicle falling on the body, contributed to the fatal outcome. Additionally, burn injuries on the victim's right thigh were linked to contact with the motorcycle's silencer during the incident.
Legal Actions Intensify Against Contractors and Subcontractor
In response to the incident, Delhi Police have escalated legal measures by issuing non-bailable warrants against two contractors, brothers Himanshu Gupta and Kavish Gupta. An officer confirmed that these warrants target individuals directly involved in the pit's management. Simultaneously, the remand of Rajesh Kumar Prajapati, a subcontractor, has been extended by one day as the investigation progresses.
Laborer Faces Judicial Custody for Alleged Negligence
Meanwhile, Yogesh, a laborer allegedly present at the site during the accident, has been remanded to judicial custody by the court. Authorities claim that Yogesh failed to inform emergency services promptly after being alerted by a security guard. Instead, he reportedly contacted Prajapati and misled the victim's family during their search efforts later that night. Prajapati was arrested for not alerting police or emergency agencies despite knowing about the fall hours before it was officially reported, while Yogesh was apprehended later in Uttar Pradesh.
FIR Registered and Ongoing Efforts to Trace Accused
An FIR has been filed at Janakpuri Police Station under Section 105 (culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, targeting the accused individuals and DJB officials. Police are actively working to locate the contractors against whom non-bailable warrants have been issued, emphasizing the seriousness of the case. This incident underscores ongoing concerns about public safety and accountability in urban infrastructure projects across Delhi.
