A powerful explosion rocked the area near Gate 1 of Red Fort Metro station in New Delhi, triggering widespread panic and prompting authorities to declare a red alert across the national capital. The blast occurred when a slow-moving vehicle stopped at a traffic signal, according to preliminary investigations.
Casualties and Emergency Response
The tragic incident has resulted in eight confirmed fatalities and 24 people injured, with three of the wounded reported to be in serious condition. All injured individuals have been rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed that the explosion caused significant damage to nearby vehicles. "Due to the explosion, nearby vehicles were also damaged," Golcha stated while providing initial details about the incident.
Multi-Agency Investigation Launched
Multiple investigative agencies have converged at the blast site to determine the cause and circumstances behind the explosion. "All agencies, FSL, NIA, are here," confirmed Commissioner Golcha, indicating the high-priority nature of the investigation.
While the investigation remains in its early stages, authorities are treating the incident with utmost seriousness. A DIG CRPF official present at the scene cautioned that "it is too early to say anything" about the nature or perpetrators of the blast.

The explosion has triggered immediate responses from the highest levels of government. Home Minister Amit Shah has established continuous communication with Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and is receiving regular updates about the situation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also taken stock of the developing situation and was personally briefed by Home Minister Shah about the incident and the ongoing response measures.
