Deadly Explosion Rocks Delhi's Historic Red Fort Area

A devastating car explosion near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro station in old Delhi has claimed at least eight lives and left 24 people injured on Monday evening, November 10, 2025. The powerful blast sent shockwaves through the national capital, triggering massive emergency response and nationwide security alerts.

Investigation and High-Level Response

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken immediate stock of the situation and held discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the security crisis. According to government sources, Delhi Police chief Satish Golcha personally briefed the Home Minister about the developing situation.

The investigation has been taken over by the National Investigative Agency (NIA), with forensic science teams and National Security Guard (NSG) specialists rushing to the blast site to collect evidence and assist local authorities. Home Minister Amit Shah has directed all relevant agencies to coordinate their efforts in uncovering the cause of the explosion.

Nationwide Security Measures Implemented

In response to the Delhi blast, security has been significantly enhanced across multiple states and critical infrastructure locations. All railway stations nationwide have been placed on precautionary alert, while Maharashtra has declared a high-alert status with increased security at vital installations.

Uttar Pradesh ADG Law and Order Amitabh Yash confirmed that the state has been put on maximum alert, with instructions issued to all senior officials to enhance security at sensitive religious sites, border areas, and sensitive districts. Additional reports indicate that Delhi, Gurgaon, and Ayodhya have also been placed on high alert following the incident.

Eyewitness Accounts Describe Chaos and Destruction

The intensity of the explosion was such that the sound was heard several kilometers away at ITO, with the force shattering windows of vehicles parked considerable distances from the epicenter. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and devastation following the loud explosion that erupted with massive flames.

One injured eyewitness, who suffered forehead wounds, told reporters that the explosion appeared to originate from a car, possibly a Swift model. "There was a Swift car in front of my auto. There was something in that car that suddenly blasted," he recounted.

Another witness located at a nearby gurdwara reported, "I heard a strong sound. We couldn't make out what it was, it was that loud. A number of vehicles nearby were completely damaged."

Sanjay Bhargaw, president of the Chandni Chowk Traders Association, whose shop is approximately 800 meters from the incident site, confirmed that the entire building shook due to the blast's impact, causing chaos in the market as people began running for safety.

The fire department official confirmed that six cars, two e-rickshaws, and one auto-rickshaw were completely gutted in the subsequent fire. All injured victims have been transported to LNJP hospital, located a few kilometers from the blast site, for emergency medical treatment.

As investigations continue, authorities remain on high alert while forensic experts work to determine the exact cause and nature of the explosion that has shaken the nation's capital.
