Delhi building collapse injures 5 in Shahdara

A four-storey residential building under construction in Shahdara's Jwala Nagar area collapsed on Tuesday morning, leaving at least five people injured and several others trapped under debris.

Timeline of the Incident

The collapse occurred around 11:30 am on Tuesday, November 26, 2025, prompting immediate emergency response. The Vivek Vihar police station received two separate calls alerting them about the structural failure and people being trapped beneath the rubble.

Police and emergency teams rushed to the scene and discovered that the roof of a newly constructed hall on the third floor had completely given way. According to preliminary investigations, the family residing in the building had been carrying out construction work on the upper floors when the sudden collapse happened.

Rescue Operations and Injuries

Avinish, a resident of the house, informed police that the newly laid roof collapsed without warning, trapping both construction workers and family members underneath.

Rescue teams successfully pulled out four individuals, including one woman, who were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police confirmed that the injured included two family members and two labourers who were working on the construction project.

Rajesh, a tenant living in the building, became the fifth injured person, though he sustained only minor injuries in the incident.

Ongoing Investigation and Safety Concerns

Authorities have cordoned off the entire area as further structural inspection continues. Police officials stated that the matter is being thoroughly probed, with particular focus on determining whether proper safety norms were followed during the construction process.

The incident has raised serious questions about construction safety standards in residential areas of Delhi, especially in densely populated neighborhoods like Jwala Nagar in Shahdara.
