Delhi Police Arrests 24-Year-Old for Allegedly Shooting at Witness in 2022 Robbery Case

In a shocking incident in outer Delhi, a 24-year-old man has been apprehended by police for allegedly firing shots at a witness and complainant involved in a 2022 robbery case. The arrest occurred in the Swaroop Nagar area, highlighting ongoing concerns about witness intimidation in criminal proceedings.

Details of the Alleged Attack

According to police reports, the incident unfolded late on Monday night when the complainant received threats near his garment shop. Around 11:50 PM, two individuals identified as Abhishek and Deepak arrived on a scooter and allegedly pressured the man to withdraw his testimony in the 2022 case. The situation escalated when Abhishek purportedly fired two gunshots, though the complainant managed to escape unharmed. The victim also claimed that another person named Ashish had instigated the attackers, leading to the registration of a fresh case by authorities.

Background of the 2022 Case

The original 2022 case involved serious charges of attempt to commit culpable homicide in connection with a robbery. This latest attack appears to be a direct attempt to obstruct justice by intimidating a key witness. DCP (outer north) Hareshwar Swami confirmed that Abhishek was tracked down and arrested following the incident, while efforts are underway to locate the two other accused individuals.

Police Response and Investigation

Law enforcement officials received a PCR call early Tuesday morning after the complainant reported the shooting. The prompt response led to the swift arrest of the primary suspect. Police emphasized that such acts of witness intimidation will be met with strict legal action, underscoring their commitment to protecting those involved in judicial processes.

The case has drawn attention to the challenges faced by witnesses in criminal trials, particularly in high-stakes cases involving violent crimes. Authorities continue to investigate the connections between the 2022 robbery and the recent attack, seeking to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.
