Delhi Police Thwarts Jailed Gangster's Plot to Eliminate Key Witness in Murder Case

In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police Special Cell has successfully foiled an alleged "targeted killing" plot orchestrated by notorious gangster Chennu Pehelwan from inside Mandoli Jail. The operation resulted in the arrest of four individuals, including the alleged shooter, and prevented the assassination of a crucial prosecution witness in a murder case.

Operation Details and Arrests

Acting on specific intelligence, police conducted a raid near JPC Hospital in Shastri Park on the night of January 24. During this operation, officers apprehended Adeeb (22), a resident of Chauhan Banger, and recovered a pistol along with five live cartridges from his possession.

During interrogation, Adeeb confessed that the weapon had been procured to carry out a murder on the direct instructions of gangster Chennu. He further revealed that two other accomplices—Farman and Aamir—had been recruited to execute the killing.

Background of the Conspiracy

The conspiracy traces back to a murder that occurred last year in Seelampur, where Chennu's gang killed a member named Misbah. Chennu suspected Misbah was planning to join his rival, Hashim Baba. One of Misbah's associates, who was present during the incident and fled, was slated to be a key witness in the case. Chennu allegedly orchestrated this plot to eliminate this witness and obstruct justice.

Elaborate Payment and Logistics Trail

Investigators uncovered that the conspiracy involved a meticulously planned logistics and payment system designed to evade detection. A token advance payment for the murder was funneled through a local tea stall in Seelampur. The cash was allegedly delivered by Usman, a close aide of Chennu, who acted as the facilitator between the jailed gangster and the shooters on the ground. Adeeb collected the money from the tea seller as part of this arrangement.

Police officials stated that Adeeb was instructed to execute the murder after Republic Day celebrations. Based on Adeeb's information, the Special Cell arrested Farman on January 26 and Usman on January 27. On January 28, Chennu was formally arrested in connection with this case.

Legal Action and Further Investigation

A case has been registered under Sections 55 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities noted that Chennu is involved in multiple cases, including murder, extortion, robbery, and criminal conspiracy. DCP, Special Cell, Amit Kaushik confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to uncover any additional links or accomplices in this elaborate plot.

This operation highlights the ongoing challenges in witness protection and the daring attempts by criminal elements to undermine judicial processes from behind bars. The Delhi Police's proactive measures have potentially saved a life and strengthened the case against the accused gangster.
