Dharamshala College Student Death: Assistant Professor Undergoes Polygraph Test
In a significant development in the tragic case of a 19-year-old Dharamshala college student's death, Kangra district police have conducted a series of forensic tests on an assistant professor who was booked for alleged sexual harassment and ragging. The student, who was enrolled in the BA first year in 2024, died during treatment on December 26 last year, sparking a thorough investigation.
Forensic Tests Conducted in Shimla
Police sources confirmed that the assistant professor underwent lie detector (polygraph), brain mapping, and voice analysis tests at the state forensic laboratory in Shimla last week. Kangra SP Ashok Ratan stated, "The tests on the assistant professor were conducted after obtaining permission from the local court. The results are pending, and we will file a detailed status report in the local court on February 13." This step marks a critical phase in the probe, as investigators await the outcomes to guide further actions.
Potential Narco Analysis Test in Delhi
Based on the results of the initial tests, investigators will decide whether to proceed with a narco analysis test. If approved, this test would be conducted in Delhi, adding another layer to the forensic examination. Police sources emphasized that this decision hinges on the pending results, highlighting the methodical approach being taken to ensure a comprehensive investigation.
Digital Evidence and Suspects
In addition to the forensic tests, three mobile phones belonging to the suspects and others have been sent to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Dharamshala for digital analysis. However, the report is still pending, indicating that the investigation is ongoing and multifaceted. The assistant professor was booked along with four women students following the student's death, with the FIR registered based on a complaint from the victim's father at the Dharamshala police station.
Legal Proceedings and Bail
All suspects, including the assistant professor and the women students, have been granted interim bail, allowing the legal process to unfold while the investigation continues. This case has drawn attention to issues of campus safety and accountability, with authorities working diligently to uncover the truth behind the student's untimely demise.
The community in Dharamshala and beyond awaits further updates as the police prepare to present their findings in court next month, hoping for justice in this heartbreaking incident.
