DRI Uncovers Novel Drug Trafficking Method with Major Amphetamine Bust in Jaipur
In a significant crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Jaipur has exposed a sophisticated new modus operandi employed by drug traffickers. The agency successfully intercepted and arrested a Nigerian-origin woman who was transporting a substantial quantity of banned psychotropic substances via an unconventional route.
Massive Drug Haul Worth Crores Intercepted
Acting on precise and specific intelligence inputs, DRI officers conducted a targeted operation that led to the recovery of approximately 1.8 kilograms of amphetamine from the suspect. According to official estimates provided by the investigating team, the seized narcotics carry a staggering street value of around Rs 1.5 crore.
The amphetamine, classified as a banned psychotropic substance under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, was allegedly being transported for widespread distribution across southern Indian markets. This interception represents a major blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
Deliberate Avoidance of Conventional Transport Modes
What makes this case particularly noteworthy is the calculated method employed by the trafficker to evade detection. Investigators revealed that the suspect deliberately avoided air travel and railway transport, both of which typically involve more rigorous security screening and checking procedures.
Instead, she opted for a private bus service operating between Delhi and Bengaluru, with Jaipur serving as an intermediate stop along the lengthy route. "She specifically chose a private bus service for this long inter-city journey, which is not the usual preference for such extensive travel," explained a DRI officer speaking on condition of anonymity.
The officer further elaborated: "Acting on specific intelligence, we intercepted her after she reached Jaipur and successfully recovered the concealed narcotics." This strategic choice of transportation highlights the evolving tactics adopted by drug syndicates to bypass established security protocols.
Legal Proceedings and Judicial Custody
Following the successful interception and recovery operation, the Nigerian-origin woman was formally arrested by DRI authorities. The agency promptly registered a comprehensive case against her under the provisions of the NDPS Act, which carries severe penalties for narcotics-related offenses.
The arrested individual was subsequently produced before a competent court, where she was remanded to judicial custody as the investigation progresses. This development underscores the continued vigilance and effectiveness of Indian revenue intelligence agencies in combating the menace of drug trafficking across transportation networks.
