In a scene straight out of a dark comedy, a habitual offender with an injured eye walked into a Bengaluru police station on Tuesday, not to surrender, but to seek protection from an unlikely source—his own wife. The move backfired spectacularly when officers, recognizing him, promptly arrested him on an active warrant.
The Unusual Complaint That Led to an Arrest
The individual, identified as Syed Asghar, is a known criminal with multiple cases, including drug peddling, registered against him in the city. He approached the police alleging that he was assaulted by his first wife during a domestic dispute, which resulted in injuries to his left eye. Based on his complaint, the Jaga Jeevanram Nagar (JJ Nagar) police station registered a First Information Report (FIR).
However, the police's routine check revealed a warrant was already active against Asghar in an attempt to murder case (IPC Section 307). Given the existence of this active warrant, the police arrested Asghar and produced him before a court. He has since been remanded to judicial custody.
A Tangled Web of Personal Disputes and Crime
Investigators quickly realized the situation was more complex than a simple marital quarrel. Police revealed that Syed Asghar reportedly has a second wife. Authorities are probing whether his complaint against his first wife was a calculated move to implicate her as part of a larger personal conflict.
Furthermore, the police are investigating allegations that the second wife may be assisting Asghar in his drug peddling activities. The domestic tension reportedly escalated after Asghar, who had fled to Odisha earlier (where another case was registered), returned to Bengaluru around three months ago and began living with his second wife.
Police Stunned by the Role Reversal
The incident has drawn significant attention for its peculiar circumstances, where a habitual offender sought police sanctuary not from rival criminals or gang threats, but from a domestic conflict. A police officer remarked on the irony, stating, “This is probably the first time we’ve seen him on this side of the complaint register.”
While an FIR was filed based on Asghar's assault allegations, no immediate arrests were made concerning the domestic incident, as the couple has a minor child. The police continue their investigations into both the domestic dispute and the wider criminal allegations, including the drug peddling network and the roles both wives may play in it.
The case underscores how personal disputes can intersect with criminal activities, leading to unexpected and dramatic confrontations within the walls of a police station.
