Major Crackdown on Drug Network in Punjab
In a significant blow to drug trafficking operations, the Punjab Police carried out a demolition operation targeting illegally acquired properties of an alleged drug peddler in Mohali's SAS Nagar area. The action represents the state's intensified campaign against narcotics networks and their financial infrastructure.
Illegal Construction on Government Land
The demolished property belonged to Bhagirath, who is currently absconding from law enforcement authorities. Investigations revealed that the accused had constructed the building on Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) land using suspected drug money.
According to police officials, Bhagirath had built the house in his mother's name to conceal the illicit origins of the funds. The property served as his operational headquarters for narcotics smuggling activities and was equipped with surveillance cameras to monitor police movements in the area.
Multiple Assets Seized in Coordinated Operation
In addition to the demolition of the primary property, the Punjab Police attached several other assets belonging to the accused. These include:
- Another house owned by Bhagirath in SAS Nagar
- An Innova car used in his operations
The coordinated action demonstrates the comprehensive approach being taken to dismantle the economic foundations of drug trafficking networks in the region.
Lengthy Criminal History Revealed
Police records indicate that Bhagirath faces multiple criminal cases across different police stations in SAS Nagar. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Harsimranjeet Singh Bal provided details of the registered cases:
- FIR No. 70 dated June 5, 2021 registered at Police Station Phase 11, SAS Nagar under the Arms Act, NDPS Act, and Punjab Excise Act
- FIR No. 106 dated September 17, 2022 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Phase 11, SAS Nagar
- FIR No. 127 dated September 9, 2022 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Phase 8, SAS Nagar
Strong Message Against Drug Trafficking
Speaking about the decisive action, DSP Bal emphasized the police department's determination to combat drug-related crimes. "We want to send a clear message to the people of Punjab that those involved in drug trafficking or other illegal activities will face strict action," he stated.
"No offender will be spared, and properties acquired through illicit means will be seized or demolished as per law," the officer added, underscoring the zero-tolerance policy being implemented across the state.
The demolition operation, conducted on November 8, 2025, marks another milestone in Punjab's ongoing war against drugs and represents the state government's commitment to eradicating the menace from society.
