Alert Passengers Stop Drunk MSRTC Bus Drivers in Khamgaon, Avert Major Accident
In a shocking incident that underscores grave safety lapses, vigilant passengers averted a potential major accident by stopping a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation sleeper bus. The bus, en route from Paratwada to Pune, was halted at the Khamgaon bus stand after travellers allegedly caught both the driver and co-driver in an inebriated condition.
Incident Unfolds at Bus Stand
The alarming situation came to light when the bus reached Khamgaon bus stand. Multiple passengers reported that the driver appeared heavily intoxicated, raising immediate concerns. Upon investigation, it was discovered that two drivers and two conductors from the Paratwada depot were on board the sleeper bus. Even more disturbingly, passengers claimed that several liquor bottles were found inside the bus, suggesting a blatant disregard for safety protocols.
Both Drivers Allegedly Under the Influence
The bus was scheduled for a long-distance journey to Pune, operating in two shifts with another driver expected to take over later. However, passengers alleged that even the second driver, deputed to drive after Jalna, was also under the influence of alcohol. This revelation indicates a systemic failure, as both drivers responsible for passenger safety were reportedly unfit to operate the vehicle.
Confrontation and Police Intervention
When confronted by passengers at the Khamgaon bus stand, the two drivers allegedly created a ruckus, escalating the situation. Officials were forced to call the police to control the disturbance. As a result, the bus remained stranded at the stand for nearly two hours, causing significant inconvenience to all travellers. The delay compounded the risks already posed by the drivers' alleged intoxication.
Passengers Demand Strict Action
Outraged by the incident, passengers have demanded stringent measures from authorities. They are calling for:
- Immediate strict action against the drivers involved.
- A thorough departmental inquiry by the state transport authorities.
- Enhanced safety checks to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Passengers emphasized that allowing intoxicated staff to operate long-distance buses poses a severe threat to public safety, highlighting the need for accountability and reform within the transport system.
